2011

That's two days away.

Ultra Culture Cinema #5!

I have currently been up for 20 hours. But the truth is, if I don't blog about tonight now I never will, so let's just be thankful I couldn't afford more alcohol.

Long story short, I went to the ICA for Ultra Culture Cinema 5. My story will consist of various pieces of multimedia because honestly, I'm far too lazy to paint the pictures in words. If you don't know who Ultra Culture are by now, you clearly don't know me well enough. But I guess if you still don't know, all you need to know is that I stopped reading film magazines the second I laid eyes on their glorious blog. 'Nuff said.

So, yeah, I went to see a film at their christmas shindig, a film which I'd been keeping track of since sometime in August: Catfish.

Amazing how these things come together, am I right?

Upon arrival, we were greeted with Ultra Culture's awesome hospitality, where they were giving the crowd hats, badges and bottles of milk? I don't know, but it was pretty cool. Then the fun began. Our mighty leader, Charlie addressed us, asking us what the 2 themes of Catfish were. Eight year olds, facebook and art all came up, but apparently Mr Lyne was looking for "long distance relationships", in which the couple had never met before, almost like a blind date. This ensued:

...Yeah. Oh, and then Santa turned up! I don't actually have any pictures to prove this, but I will inevitably steal it from some other blog post when I get the chance. He gave out many kind presents, such as Four Christmases, Home alone 1 and 2, and National Lanpoon's christmas vacation! Charlie also took great care in announcing that he would be handing copies of Lesbian Vampire Killers to the first 48 people who got to the bar after our film viewing. Not quite sure if this is a good thing or not.

Then we watched the film, I'm not going to synopsise it or anything for you, because you're on the internet, youtube's just across the street. I wont deny anything, it was amazing. go watch it.

Then we hit the bar! Here's a picture of Tom proudly showcasing his free copy of Lesbian Vampire Killers!:
FUN FACT: we were actually so early to the bar we had to backtrack to get our free stuff!

I guess not much else happened, we got some drinks in and I shamelessly stalked Charlie from our corner:
If it's not clear which member of the crowd he is in the picture I will (and did) quite happily point him out for you:
And again:
Two hours into this, we decided to call it a night. We were going to thank Charlie for such an amazing night, but he was having too much fun by the decks in between piss breaks. So we left him to it.Thanks Charlie. Bye Charlie.

Okay, now it's really late, so I'm basically just going to document my journey home in pictures and/or video without making any input at all.

G'night all.

Learning to read.

Instinctively, that is.

I NEED to read, it keeps my head working properly, it stimulates my imagination and in a lot of ways it makes me a better person. So I've had an idea. It's well known that a lot of my thinking will somehow come down to a deck of cards, if you haven't noticed yet, it can't be too far off. So here it is: I'm going to assign each book (or series of books that I read from now on with a card. I already use cards as bookmarks so it's not really changing much. But my challenge is to have a full deck within a year. Doesn't sound too bad, does it?

My first book is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, it's card is the king of hearts. It's the first book in a trilogy, so as long as I can latch onto the second book relatively quickly, finishing these books wont be too much of a problem. You want a short review? It's pretty good.

Remember the reading list I published a while back? I haven't actually finished any of the books on it yet, which shows how much I really need this. It's good for my writing too, which is good news for you guys. At least the guys who are left.

Although, there's nothing wrong with a new beginning.

Reboot.

Okay, I've neglected my blog lately, yeah. Deal with it, because it's all back.

And you know what, nothing in my life would really look great on this post. I've not been doing much other than college. I can tell you all about viscous drag or logarithms if you like though.

But yeah, if you think you're missing out. You really aren't.

However, things wont be quiet for much longer, starting on the 16th, I have a trillion and one plans (lasting right up until the 1st). Starting with Catfish and ending with Edgar (<3), it's gonna be a hell of a ride. Oh yeah, and apparently something called "Christmas" is going on too, don't really get what that is...

Okay

Maybe tomorrow.

Holy robot pandas Batman, a blog post!

Dear Blog,

I'm sorry, I haven't spoken to you for nearly a month. I hope you can eventually bring yourself to forgive me. I want you to understand that I was venturing out alone into a new part of the world, of my life, and I didn't want to immediately turn back on that and run back home. I didn't forget you. I would never forget you.

That sounded so much sadder than it was supposed to. I've just been super busy, I'll talk some more tomorrow. If i don't, you have the right to deep fry my lungs, then serve them with a light salad and mushroom sauce...Mmmm.

Until then, my half hearted fellowship!

"I have always depended on the kindness of strangers"

I'll be honest, today wasn't the best day ever. I was tired, it was a long college day (9am to 6pm) and my oyster card balance was dipping above and below £1 all day. But while I was restlessly half pacing at Watford Junction at around 7pm, I was approached by a woman and her kid. She asked if I would like her all day travel ticket thing, as she was done travelling for the day, how kind.

It brightened my day considerably. I mean, it wasn't the biggest money saving ever, my ticket would have cost me £1.45, but it shows that the world isn't as relentless as the papers like to tell us*. Thank you, mystery woman.

Also, you get points for telling me what the title of this post is from!
lol misquote!

*talking of papers, that new paper (called i or something) isn't bad for 20p.

The haunting.

It's a bit late for Halloween but it's scary nonetheless.

P.S. Might I add that when it stopped, all power was lost completely, it didn't remain on standby as normally does.

P.P.S I say 1pm in the video, I mean 1am, my curtains aren't ever closed at 1pm. Just sayin'.

I suppose I should blog

'CAUSE SHIT JUST GOT REAL!

Definately, kind of, maybe, not particularly. Describe it however the hell you want, but I'm feeling cool right now, so let's talk about my week.

College is no longer a grinding experience for me, I feel like I'm finally connecting with a few people, I don't really want to talk about the work 24/7. Not going to be mentioning names (they might be stalking me).

Other than college, I have been out twice (yes, that's a 100% increase on my average!), my first outing was to the lovely Karolina before she left for her holiday, we stood in shops and complained about gloves like all the cool kids do. My second outing was to see the equally lovely Nat before she left for her holiday, we tried and failed to defeat Ursula from the Little Mermaid, because she's a bitch and she knows it. Today I've just been chilling before I leave for holiday.

Maybe something holday related would have been a better title...

So, what else have I been doing other than being social and getting an education (selfish bastard, aren't I)? Well, I read through the entire archive of a webcomic called Problem Sleuth, see below for picture:
The title tells you it's about some kind of detective, the picture...the picture tells you nothing. Either way, it's amazing. Read it here.

Anyway, I'm leaving in a couple of hours, so I guess it's time to wrap up (you have NO IDEA how long it took me to write this).

Brb, Blackpool.

How my mind works.

This is all one sheet of paper.
Alternate title: "an hour of my life".

A warning.

You're all going to have to bare with me for a while. Nothing much is going on in my life and I may become a boring/more boring person for a while because of that. If you just so happen to be my best friend and hang off of every word I say, you may want to find a temporary replacement. If I think of something amazing and exciting, I'll inform you all.

However, if you only read my blog to look at funny/cute pictures, you're in luck:

18+

So, I'm 18 now. I'm not really sure what else there is to say other than picking up from where I left off on my last blog.

On my birthday, Eleanor and Aaron came round, I got a bunch of presents (everything on my list AND MORE) and then we just sat around having fun. Afterwards I went out for a meal with Karolina, it was all good.

On Sunday, Damaris wasn't able to turn up to what I'd been planning to do for months (11, to be precise), but luckily Aaron was on hand to replace her:
We went to Eurogamer and played games all day, all the videos are on my youtube.

I'm aware that I'm being ridiculously vague about it all, but honestly, I can't remember much of what I did, all I know was that it was an amazing weekend. Here are some pictures that I may have taken:
Just in case a diva turned up.

I always expected my phone's camera to have worse quality...

So very, very close.

But not quite, I'm not the kind of guy who waits around for his birthday like a chump, I'm the fucker who celebrates a day early! Celebrations will also be held on the day and the day after. Those interested, take a leaflet.

Tonight was easily one of the best, if not THE best birthday celebration of my life so far, and not only because I got to eat my favourite meal. The lineup for the night was Eleanor, Tom, James, Daisy, Aaron and Damaris. Keep in mind that the latter three had come back from uni, which was amazing.

Not long after we got our table I was assaulted by staff, who tied six balloons to me:

pictures available when I get them,no prizes for guessing who from.

Believe me, it's ridiculously awkward to eat dinner with 2 balloons tied to each of your wrists.

To my stalkers: dinner was surf n' turf (that's king prawns and steak) with mushroom sauce and cheesy mash, it was amazing. But that wasn't all, since the traditional birthday "humiliation" (with free cake) was next on the cards:

Afterwards, I managed to pull myself away from the memorisation that the fire atop the candle produced to say a few improvised words to respond to the typical "speech" chant. I'll try to recreate it for the purpose of this blog as best I can:
Fire, I like fire. Like my candle, I was ignited, 18 years ago, and luckily my flame grew, and spread from thatched roof to thatched roof. May my flame continue to spread, may all our flames continue to spread. I like fire.
I think that's fairly accurate.

After this, Damaris managed to ruin the whole day by spilling coke, the whole day. I'm joking, I got over it. I ate my cake, and my brownies, and my ice cream, then we left.

It was great.

Also, I got a few early presents, a planner from Aaron (I'm more organised than you think), money from Tom, and this from Daisy:

It's just the most amazing thing. I already love it , But what do I call it? Suggestions on a postcard please.

Tomorrow, I become an adult.

P.S. 60mph in a mini is terrifying.

I'm bored.

To think, my birthday is in three days. I believe everything is in order now...

Hmm.

Oh, a new Borderlands DLC came out yesterday, it will be bought...

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about character design. I've noticed that it's one of the key elements in most of my favourite books, films and games etc. Don't confuse that with character development, which is the focus on many, many books and films, less with games. For example, these narratives often lay out a series of fighters, in the form of a league or something. In order for each of these fights to feel new and fresh, the characters need to be as diverse as possible. That's a good thing, a great thing, even. Far too often are games full of many, many enemies who look exactly the same, when I'm perfectly content fighting 10 completely different enemies. It's because of the character design.

I think I want to try something like that.

New beginnings

Damaris left for university this morning. She was the last to go, everyone's gone now. That's Daisy, Rajiv, Aaron, Nicole and Damaris, virtually everyone I've become friends with over the past year. Obviously I'm going to see them again in the future, I don't doubt that at all, but I still feel that I should mark this as a new beginning. After all, they're all having their own new beginnings in Canterbury, Norwich, Bath, Nottingham and Coventry. Good luck to them all!

Anyway, back to me, I'm 18 in six days! It seems like the ideal thing to start the next chapter of my life, so I'm going to bombard you with every detail of it I can think of!

My schedule looks a little like this:

Friday 1st: Surf n' Turf with Eleanor and company (evening).
Saturday 2nd: My house all day and then Toby Carvery with Karolina in evening.
Sunday 3rd: Eurogamer in London! (more about this another time).

Yes, I know I've just named a meal on Friday, because I really don't mind where I have it, I just love surf n' turf.
Here's my list (as always, click to enlarge):
Just to clarify, this isn't a blog stunt, I actually did this. It shows off my amazing thought process while also making me look like I'm in primary school. Also, all items on the list have already been accounted for and apparently I'm still well under my birthday budget...I guess the rest of the cash will have to sit in my bank account until Karolina inevitably finds a way to drain it again.

I have nothing else to say that would fit in here, so have a summary!

Summary:
  • People are going to University. They will all be missed and I look forward to seeing them again.
  • It's my birthday in 6 days. That's 6 days. Six. Seis. Sei. Sechs. Sześć. Шесть. 六. That's 6 days, in case you missed it.

From Australia to The Moon

Guess
who
finally
got
in
to
a
college!

The 19th time's the charm!

To be fair, I actually started on Thursday, I've just been working on life (playing zombie games). It's fine though, the plus side to my late blog post is that I've met all of my teachers now, so I know all the basics. One of my maths teachers is really old fashioned, she says a lot of phrases I've never heard before, like the title of this post (which was referring to co-ordinate geometry).

I'm really enjoying it so far, I've met a fair amount of people (enough for all my lessons) and I know where it's at in town (subway), which is a 5 minute walk from the college. It's all cool in the world of Adam...It's ironic really, it was only a few months ago I was talking about not going to Harrow for nearly a decade, now I go to college there.

What else have I been doing (other than playing Dead Rising)? I wrote myself a reading list. I've decided that since I'm not an english lit student anymore, I should push myself to read. It genuinely improves writing and vocab skills without applying any effort, which is genius. Here's my current list:

The handmaid's tale - Margret Atwood
The turn of the screw - Henry James
The bourne identity - Robert Ludlum
The girl with the dragon tattoo - Steig Larsson
The spy who came in from the cold - John le Carré
The hunger games - Suzanne Collins
Skullduggery pleasant: Mortal Coil - Derek Landy
City of ashes - Cassandra Clare
Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card

Note to self: If I ever write a book, don't start the title with the word "The"

I also need to read "how to win friends and influence people" since I never actually finished it. Most of these are from recommendation, from friends, teachers or people I follow on the internet. Others result from my own personal intrigue, because I'm pro. I should be getting hold of The handmaid's tale tomorrow.

I feel like I should be saying more words...

Oh, I saw Karolina on Friday, she dragged me everywhere to buy hooker boots and a detective coat and then bought me a coffee thing for not complaining (much). Then we went to a Polish shop and she decided it was creepy because she didn't like the shop assistant, while I didn't know what anything actually was. We bought cheese, fact.

Truth be told, the fact that I have to take a train to college still hasn't sunk in yet. After all, today was only my third day. I'm only facing prospective stability, not stable stability.

Entertainment Mathematics:

Spies>School kids
Spooks>Imbetweeners

and NEVER should
Spies=School kids
it isn't as cool as either or the two.

Got it? Good. Now go watch Spooks, it has Richard Armitage in it.

Now you know about my lovely life! And it's only 12 days until I'm 18 <---IMPORTANT FACT.

Also

Please watch Grandma's house on the BBC iPlayer for me, because Simon Amstell is one of my favourite people. You don't have to like it, just like him.

Seriously, go watch it now. I'm not joking, go away, I'm trying to watch Tarantino movies.

One of them life updates.

I've had a lot of demands saying "update your blog!" lately, admittedly most of them have been from the same person, but oh well. It's hard, because I don't really want to write a post which basically says "failing at life LOL", but fine, here we go.

I got my results about three weeks ago, since then I've been looking for a new place of education. In that time, I've been rejected by 17 places of learning. Seventeen. Friday was pretty much it, I went to enroll in the college which was somehow made to be a place of dreams, where anyone and everyone gets accepted. Apparently that was wrong.

So, where now? I've worn out the possibilities of anywhere in Watford, Hemel Hempstead and now St Albans. Next up on the list are Harrow and Stevenage, lovely.

What doesn't help is the barrage of people asking how I'm coping, or how I feel. I'd love to say "I'm doing fine, 18th time lucky!", but really, it's starting to get to me, I'm not fine at all. Obviously people are worried about me, which is touching, however, I'm kind of still trying to get my life back on track, wherever that track may be. Another thing that isn't helping is that my parents are starting to talk about me getting a job. Perfect, let's just give up on what little ambition I have left and become a dish washer, why not? God, I love washing dishes...

However, all is not lost! I have a cute little anecdote for you while I lose the will to live: Back when I was little, I used to have these toy cars, where you could split them into two halves, front and back. They were in a set, you could reattach them to other kinds of car to make new kinds of cars, like having the front of a beetle with the back of a jeep. They gave me hours and hours of endless fun. I think I still have a few of them upstairs. They gave me joy.

What's the equivalent of mix 'n' match toy cars for a 17 year old?

Oh, by the way, I'm 18 in just under three weeks. Fun fun.

Too early?

I got up at 7:30 today. It hurt.

Why was I up? Education. Firstly to take my youngest brother to his first day of secondary school, secondly to hand in my application to the Verulum school (it looks really posh, it has a tower!). After these events took place, I accompanied my parents to various shopping locations to provide them with complaints about useless things.

However, none of these are really what I wanted to write about today. Check out what I found in Homebase:Do want.

An excedingly long "life" post

I haven't posted for 8 days. That feels like a long time to me, and believe me, plenty has happened.

I'm going to start with what happened BEFORE my last post: I didn't pass my AS exams well enough to carry on to A2. I know what you're saying, "You can just retake the year!", not if your school isn't offering the same subjects to the new AS year. It hit me pretty hard, but I think I needed something like that to sort me out. You see, I have a list of 16 schools in the area to call about a place in a sixth form. I need to call 12 of them again since their offices apparently wont be up and running until tomorrow. Of the four that answered, one school wants an application.

Early this afternoon, I returned to my old school to break the news that I no longer intended to be a student there, my ex head of sixth form told me that he thought I'd made the right decision, before wishing me luck and sending me on my way. Moving forward. That's what's happening in my life right now.

What else have I done? My last post was written after the first day of looking after my own house, I should probably tell you about the rest of that week. On Tuesday, Damaris came over, we ordered pizza and watched Ice Age 3. She slept on the sofa and demanded I slept on the floor because she's afraid of the dark.

Damaris has played a fairly major part in my life recently, since she was the only person I saw on the day after I got my AS results (and the day after that). She thinks I'm generally a horrible person, yet she seems to hang out with me more than any of her other friends, take from that what you will.

On Wednesday, Eleanor came to mine, I was pretty on edge, seeing as I'd discovered that I'd have to wait TWELVE HOURS until the Scott pilgrim game came out (this was about 11 hours before she arrived). When it finally came out, I bought it on my mother's credit card details and we played it for a time that registers between "I can't remember" and "I wasn't paying attention", all I can really remember is that Damaris left while we were playing the game, or I walked her to the bus stop, or something. Either way, it's an amazing game. After my gaming needs had been satisfied, Eleanor and myself headed up to London to watch Scott Pilgrim on opening night. This event will be explored more in another post. Deal with it.

Thursday was a moderately empty day after Eleanor left, although I had the best bangers and mash ready meal. I probably just played Scott Pilgrim for most of the day. Who knows.

And then Friday came (why wouldn't it?), I don't quite know why, but the outings arranged by Karolina and myself always seem to be planned months (seemingly) in advance with military precision. It's kind of cool. What was Friday's plan? To go drink coffee, do something that would probably pass as shopping, hand in some CVs and then make some brownies at mine! For the record, they were the best brownies ever.

My family arrived home later that evening to find some form of Mario Kart throwdown taking place. Obviously I won.

Obviously.

They also found a very clean kitchen, that's an important fact.

Everything I've done since then is either school related or none of your business, unless it was today, then I can tell you. Today, after my trip to my former place of learning, Damaris and I went to the cinema, we were due to meet everyone else there (5 others), but we were there at least an hour and a half before the film started, which was all cool. However, there was a disturbance in the force, as both the girl my friend says has a crush on me was there to see a generic dance film AND the cashier I'm convinced wants me was working too, I should probably choose one and go for it. Or just go for both and hope one works and one fails. Either way, the previous sentence means neither of them can ever find out about this blog. Ever.

Then nearly everyone (Aaron, Nicole, Eleanor, Eleanor's sister) turned up and we all watched Scott Pilgrim. And that's it really, I've had a good time. Thanks to Damaris and Karolina especially (others will get their thanks in the Scott Pilgrim post, so stop complaining, damnit), you're both wonderful people.

And if you didn't pay attention to any of that, here's a webcomic page for you (as always, click to enlarge).

It's from a website called Nedroid. The two characters are called Reginald (the bird), and Beartato, who is half bear, half potato. It really is an amazing webcomic, go check it out sometime.

That really is all,

Bye!

P.S. Don't ever complain that I don't write long posts again. Without these foot notes, this post is 846 words long. you know who you are.

P.P.S. More pictures would make this post 20% more cool, but personally, I can't be bothered.

Responsibility.

If responsibility isn't looking after a house for five days, I don't know what is. This counts especially if you plan on having plenty of people drifting in and out, cooking for them, etc. Today is day 2 of that responsibility, I've cooked two meals (properly cooked too, not just heated something from a fridge) for six people, Eleanor, Aaron, Daisy, Nicole, Tom and myself. I also cleaned up after cooking this morning (Nicole very kindly offered to wash up last night). So yeah, take that world!

As for the rest of the week, Damaris is due over this afternoon, I'm off to see Scott Pilgrim with Eleanor tomorrow evening and I'm baking with Karolina on Friday. It should all be lovely.

In regards to the past 24 hours, I thank the five mentioned above for being lovely guests.

P.S. Don't think I forgot about that last Osymyso remix, here it is:

What?

Sixth Osymyso Scott Pilgrim remix.

Yeah

Bryan Lee O'Malley signing!

They say there's no such thing as a free lunch, well I proved that wrong from the start, with a voucher for a free burger from ThaT Burger (and it was awesome). I also went to London to get my Scott Pilgrim books signed by the original creator, here's the story of that.
So, we rode on trains and things (with my brand new super awesome oyster card!) and started looking for the surprisingly hard to find Forbidden Planet store. We found it, we looked around, and we discvoered where the queue for the event was (the one in the backalley). However, we wanted something to eat, so we hit starbucks! The sinister religious building pictured above was our landmark, it helped us get back ^.^
The picture above was the queue in front of us, and the picture below was the queue behind us, I'd say we weren't in a bad position. However, you can't really go wrong with a queue placement when there's a two hour wait attached. Two hours later we got in! Here's the man himself:
Con: The signing was only two items per person, so there was no way I'd get all 6 of my books signed (7 if you count my spare copy of book 5).

Pro: I had Eleanor, so I could get four signed!

This right here would be a picture that Eleanor took,
but since she hasn't sent me any photos yet,
I'm writing this message to replace it, shame on you
Eleanor.

tUpon discovering that I had formed a cunning plan to get four of my books signed, he jokingly called me a "cheeky bastard" (eeeeeeeeeeee!). So, these are my books:
Book 1
Book 6
Book 5
Book 4
I'm certain there's some kind of hidden message somewhere , but I'm happy all the same. Good job Mr. O'Mally, you're now officially the most famous person I've ever met (at least you are in my eyes anyway)!

...I'm so happy.

P.S. Although Eleanor is slated above, she's awesome. Don't let my hate comments changed the fact that she's one of the best friends anyone could ever hope for.

Augusty things.

Today you have a choice, you can either watch the fifth scott pilgrim osymyso remix here:

Fight

or you can read some more about lil' ol' me. If you've already watched the video, stop. Right now. No peeking.

Okay, so I've made it to about midway through August, normally I would have completely lost it by now. As it happens, I've only just begun to lose it. However, on the plus side, I'm off to see Bryan Lee O'Malley tomorrow, the artist who created Scott Pilgrim! Needless to say, I'm hyped.

Glad that's out of my system, apparently my week just planned itself in the last hour.

Good job Adam?

P.S. I know you checked out both!

Scott Pilgrim (and life)

Just before I start bombarding you with things today, I'l like to make it clear that this isn't about how Scott Pilgrim effects my life, the two are seperate. This isn't going to end up on Jeremy Kyle or something. Clear? Good.
4th Osymyso remix - Ramona
Thought I'd just slip that in there, now I can talk about life. Southend was good. I played two games of crazy golf and a considerable amount of Time Crisis 3. It was proper crazy golf too, there was a windmill!
Oh yeah, that's right. However, that's nothing compared to the real winner of the show, check out this baby!
It's the coolest hand dryer I have ever encountered. Virtually instant dry, it's all exciting stuff here.

Or at least, it was then, I haven't done anything since, and I won't be out again until Monday, so don't expect many "life" updates until then.

...Save me.

Dat third scott pilgrim remix!

Love

Newspaper headline of the year, SO FAR

I just happened to glance at a newspaper yesterday, what I found was more than I could ever hope for. This is what the headline on the front page said:
DOCTOR SHOT BY TALIBAN WAS DUE TO MARRY
It's great isn't it? The paper has no care that the doctor was killed. Oh no, the REAL news is that she was due to marry! You've got to love hating newspapers sometimes. I can only hope for more of headlines like this.

21 days until Scott Pilgrim vs the World.

Yeah, countdown titles, they seem kind of sad and I'm not sure if I like them. But I'm having them anyway!

I'm sticking to my schedule of epic epicness and providing you with the second remix by Osymyso
Hey

This week's moving kind of fast, I'll do my best to keep up with posting, I might even tell you what I've been doing (it's nothing completely out of the ordinary, so don't panic).

Scott pilgrim month!

Since all of you seem to be allergic to research, I will announce that the connection between those four music videos were that Edgar Wright was the director! The big giveaway was the use of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

I'm just going to assume that you all knew this month would be Scott Pilgrim themed, since it's only 24 days until I go to see it on opening night at the ICA. Until then, I will be counting down here! Yayyyy.

I'll be doing this by providing you with videos, such as this one:

It's one of seven remixes (this one's called prepare) made by a guy known as Osymyso, I'll be posting the rest at convenient intervals throughout the month. I'll also be talking about the books, posting screen shots and unleashing all the other various bits and pieces I have saved up from last month.

And y'know, if Scott Pilgrim isn't quite your shindig (shame on you), I'll still stray away and do various "life" related posts.

So it begins, the countdown to Scott Pilgrim vs the world!

31. On and on I go 'til I find you.

Last video in two respects here. Look carefully at the cast if you're looking for the connection, it's a major clue.
Charlotte Hatherley - Bastardo

That's it, the last of my daily songs. Some of you didn't believe I would be able to pull it off, but I did, so Ha! It's been good for me, since I now have no excuse not to blog regularly as I've just proved that I can do just that. Besides, lots of new videos! Let's round up, the July playlist looks like this:

And with that list of beatiful, beautiful music I shall leave you.

P.S. But what's this? One final clue as to what the connection may be? Very generous. Well, it turns out that there is in fact, a fourth video! However, I wasn't able to post it due to the fact that it's already on my blog in this post! If you still can't figure it out, would a little research kill you?

30. I sleep all day

Second video, one of you had better figure out the connection.

The Eighties matchbox b-line disaster - Psychosis safari

Today, I would like to talk about the geek paradise that is Comic-Con. It made a moderately large impact on what I do on the internet as virtually every artist/moderately famous blogger I follow was there. Obviously it was a huge success, apart from that one guy getting stabbed in the eye.

However, the reason I'm talking about it today is because Ultra Culture (a movie blog) mentioned coverage by a man called Bob Stencil, naturally I investigated the link provided, which led to this video:

I think he's definately one of my "people of the year" so far. More stuff from him here. Oh, and I think I also want to look out for Michelle Rodriguez in the future, if you know what I mean.

My last video tomorrow!

29. Where am I now?

Today I'm going to start playing with your head-boxes. You see, next month is also going to be themed for the most part. The theme may seem obvious, but it will only be a small clue towards the question I'm about to provide you with. The last three videos of the month (that's today, tomorrow and the day after) will all have one thing in common, what is it? Winner gets something of some kind (maybe).

The Bluetones - After hours

Today I'm posting early-ish, because I haven't done anything today and I have no plans to do anything later. I stayed in bed until 4pm, and I'm proud. That is all.

28. It's the latest rage

Today's artist was requested by Karolina, the song was chosen by me. The video mashes up both my favourite song (or whatever you'd call it)by the artist and one of my favourite television programs. I know they remade it a few years back, but we don't talk about that.

Marilyn Manson - Astonishing panorama of the end times

The techno-ish solo reminds me of a telephone box (:

As you've probably guessed by now, I saw Karolina today. We were actually shopping for myself for once, for various things that will probably be revealed in the near future. Then we drank coffee and sat in Starbucks for at least ninety minutes trying to figure out what to do next.

As we parted before 3pm (we met at like 10:30! Which we all know is far too early to be even half conscious), I decided to head over to my grandparents' house, partially because I had a job to carry out at the cinema. This job was to find out what cinemas do with their posters when they're finished. The answer is yes, I have indeed completed that job, and I need to return soon. Other than that, I completed my grandma's jigsaw (it was too easy for her anyway) and discovered a whole new side to the world of papercraft.

All in all, pretty good day, thanks to Karolina for supporting my latest insane endeavour that may or may not actually happen.

27. We're gonna tear up the town.

I'd love to be able to kick Penn and Teller out of their hotel room. Although I wouldn't, because they're totally awesome.

Katy Perry - Waking up in Vegas

Today I gave blood. Well, I gave SOME blood. I'm not sure entirely what happened, but there was definitely a needle in my arm.

In other news, I found an interesting time lapse video earlier showing every nuclear explosion from 1945 to 1998, created by a Japanese artist called Isao Hashimoto. Keep with it from the start, it gets fast quickly. It's interesting, although scary at the same time (there are plenty more than you think). Have a look:

Here's the picture of the end result here.

I have more moderately useless yet totally awesome (to me) news for you tomorrow!

26. That's the sound of music from another room.

Last video I have before I start playing with your precious minds. It's not great by all means, but it was floating around. Doesn't mean I don't love it, because I do.

Thursday - Tomorrow I'll be you

Today I saw Damaris, and we watched the IT crowd for about four hours. It was awesome.

Tomorrow I'm giving blood!

25. Just enjoy the show

I know what you're thinking, "it's Lenka's song, the show!" Yeah...that bit's right, but she isn't singing it. You see, I actually found the song through a cover by a girl called Raven Zoë, and personally, I think it's just that little bit better.

Raven Zoë covers Lenka's "The show"

Today, a meeting was held. A meeting to discuss an event that would go down in history. That is, the day I finally make my return to Southend! Yes, it's happening. August 7th, I'm excited.

24. Break me down.

This one's scraping the barrel a bit, because I can't download videos from YouTube today because they've updated and broken every video downloader I have (that's a count of 2). It's left over from my top 100, I had about 121 (I was pretty desperate for numbers 90-100), I thought I deleted them but hey, this one kind of came to our rescue. It's one of the most offensive songs you'll probably ever hear, but I like it. I thought this version was uhh...reasonably censored.

Buckcherry - Crazy Bitch

I played New super mario bros virtually all day today. Completed it too, so you won't ever have to read about it after today. It was the first game in a long time to really challenge me. However, there was ONE thing that really bugged me about it. There's a feature where if you die a certain amount of times in a level, the game offers to give you a video showing how to complete the level. Why? If you travel back to my platforming roots, you won't find that. I just had to persist, and so should new gamers now. They might be afraid that they might lose a few people if the game's too hard, but they shouldn't give them the level on a plate! Gah, kids these days have it too easy...

23. In case you haven't heard.

Generic cheesey "punkish" song.
Boys like girls - Love drunk

So, today I gave in to the pressures of modern society and created a twitter account. I'm fully aware that I posted that exact statement on facebook a few minutes ago, but I liked it. So, y'know, follow me and shit (@Randomentalist), if that's your shindig.

In some other completely unrelated blog news, I'm going to be playing with the layout of my sidebar (over there -------------->) soon, just to see if some crazy new widget might work or whatever.

Finally, in case you're wondering, the "important" part of my day went perfectly. I'll explain it soon, but until then, I'd like to play a little game. I'll explain that tomorrow.

22. Look at your watch now.

There are three versions of this video, "unnecessarily long", "decent length" and "cut for music channels", I'll leave you to deduce which version this is, simply based on the previous sentence.

Gwen Stefani - What you waiting for?

Today, I saw too many people. The plan in general was this: See Karolina, get coffee, talk for at least an hour, go on the inevitable shopping trip afterwards, go to bus stop, go home. This all happened, but I saw far too many people I've been to school with at some point in my life while doing so (I'm not used to it). Let's name them, in order:

Bev (at school)
Charles (also at school)
Nikesh
Alberto
Chaibee
Emily Crye + boyfriend x 4
Holly + sister
Javeria
Jack
Tom Black
Various others will most likely spring to mind in the near future, but chances are I'll never take the time to edit this list (:

Other than the surreal moments which slowly build into the ominous feeling you can't possibly escape the presence of someone somehow related to my past, my day was fantastic. Three hour conversations never get old, although that's a record, not an average. No, Boots doesn't get any less boring. Yes, apparently clocks going on pacific time never get any less entertaining. No, I can't be bothered to bring you up to date with anything else that happened today. I enjoyed it, which is all that matters.

My two closest friends in two days, not bad as far as weeks go.

Tomorrow is very important for me, I'll reveal why in later posts (don't tell them Eleanor!).

21. Creativity

I've been working my way through movie soundtracks lately. Here's one of the one's that has caught me most. It's from 28 Days Later, blah blah blah.

John Murphy -In the house in a heartbeat

In a very convenient twist of fate, I was asked by Eleanor to go and see Inception with her, perfectly creating a theme between today's piece of music and what I did today. Well done Eleanor, top job with that whole psychic shindig.

The film itself was amazing, I loved it, because it made me think. Today, I'm going to share many of those thoughts and the thoughts they linked to, just because I can. So before I start, I should probably warn you that I won't contain myself here, I'm just going write whatever runs through my head. In other words, shit could get crazy.

Inception is a film that heavily focuses on dreaming, so naturally in my deep after movie conversation with Eleanor, the argument of dreams vs reality came up. Of course, in dreams you occasionally create a perfect scenario, you get things the easy way, and given the choice, to live in the dream for the rest of your life would be great, easy pickings. Your life would be built for you. But does it not feel better to go out and build that life yourself? To paint your own picture, as it were. However, then the concept of detail came into play. It's all very well and good to say "I'm going to ask that girl out tomorrow," but then you have to switch to a finer brush and fill in all the details. For instance, what exactly do you say? Although this may seem off putting, the point I'm desperately trying to reach is that when you finish your chosen task and come out with your masterpiece, it feels so damn good.

Eventually I came onto the the subject that's been looming over me for quite some time. I need something constructive to do this summer, especially now that it seems that I genuinely have to get up before 10am from now on. Fair enough, it's easy to create beautiful pieces of art (metaphorically speaking), but I'm a mathematician at heart, so what I create has to be near enough perfect. I'm fully aware that when I do apply myself to something, the results are fantastic. Look at this blog for example! Eleanor naturally suggested learning an instrument, being a musician herself, but I don't quite have enough space for that. I could try woodwork, start a web comic, learn to drive, learn a language, write something amazing from my already extensive list of ideas. The ideas just keep flowing. My problem is that at the end of the day, I just don't have the will power.

So how do I create said will power?

Maybe it relates to a certain lack of self confidence that I face with new challenges in life. It's a possibility that improving my confidence will improve my will power, so here's the plan: I take on a challenge which is far from compulsory in relation to living my life, yet if I succeed, plenty of new doors could be opened which could possibly enchance my life in the long run.

Sounds easy enough.
P.S. Don't let this post make you think i had anything less than an awesome day!

20. At least we'll have something to say.

The latest band I've gotten into:
Tv/Tv - Fire island freakout

How did I find them? Well, this video might explain it:

They definately need to record together.

19.5. 200th post!

I have just finished reading Scott Pilgrim's finest hour, and while I'm going to have to read it again later, I am thoroughly satisfied.

I can't think of anything special to do for this blog milestone, so I'll just let the band play me out, take it away!

...yes, I'm on bass.

19. Potentially one of the most important days of my life so far.

This tune is really summery, which is why I enjoy listening to it.

Lemon jelly - The staunton lick

I guess you're probably wondering why this blog's titled as it is, so I'm going to tell you. Today, I recieved a package, and then I started recording a video (sideways, which is why there's a REALLY dodgy quality). I'll allow my past self to take over:

And then my dad went and ruined it. Here's a picture anyway:
Why is this so significant? Other than the fact that it's the last book in a series that I've been following for years. Other than the fact that it's a UK edition of the book and not the US version. Well, according to amazon.co.uk, it's not being released until the 22nd. More importantly, according to amazon.com, it's not being released in the states until tomorrow!

I'm off to go read before nearly everyone else in existance now!

P.S I'll never record myself again if the video hurts to watch that much.

P.P.S I have since realised that amazon.fr and amazon.co.uk are also on the packaging, don't judge me.
