Top 5 Songs (week starting 01/03)

Aha, didn't see this one coming did we?

Basically, since my Nokia Music account was fixed, I've been listening to a lot more music, and so I'm able to write you one of those lists you love oh so much. I originally had 10 songs this week, but decided that I really can't be bothered to write that much.

It's been a week of mixed emotions, so I've been listening to a lot of acoustic, "meaningful" (emo) music but I became happier and discovered a few new albums throughout the week. So it's all cool.

5. Jamie all over -Mayday parade

This song's been number one on this list in the past, I don't really have to explain it again. Mayday Parade are still one of my favourite bands, they take up my entire "depression" playlist, or at least they did, until the next song came along...

4. Maybe - Secondhand Serenade

I found this on Facebook, and it's a bit emo to say the least. They remind me a lot of Dashboard Confessional (not promising), they caught my attention, and I like them, 'nuff said.

Lyrics that I like:
"Maybe it's just me.
Couldn't you believe that everything I said and did
wasn't just deceiving?
And the tear in your eye,
and your calm, hard face
makes me wish that I was never brought into this place.

And someday, I promise I'll be gone.
And someday, I might even sing this song to you.
I might even sing this song to you.
To you, to you, to you..."

3. Mic check - Hadouken!

I was just planning on browsing youtube one day, and I found this on the homepage. I liked some of Hadouken's stuff so I decided to check it out. This is actually the video that led me to the top 100 youtube videos I posted earlier on this week. It's more of a tuney thing than a lyrical thing, I just really like the beat.

Cool lyrics:
"I wanna take your mind and soul,
right to the core
right to the bone"

Here, have the music video.

2. Baby, you wouldn't last a minute on the creek - Chiodos

If I'd have written this last week, this song would have been number one, and most likely the week before that as well. Their lyrics stand out to me more than other bands, I can't explain why, they just do. I won't post a video because Chiodos have horrible and disturbing videos (but if you want to find them, feel free).

My favourite lyrics from this track:
"Let's just stop,
drop everything,
(forget each other's names) forget each other's names,
And just walk away.

Turn around and head in different directions,
Like we never, it's like we never knew each other at all.
We said what we feel, then we stop ourselves,
And just walk away.
Never looking back,
Loving every second of it,
we just walk away.

This is probably the best,
not to mention the worst idea,
that I have ever had.

Ignoring what we've loved,
Overlooking what we've done,
No awkward silences, no hiding any truths
What do you say?"

1. The great escape - We are Scientists

Probably the liveliest song In my list this week. I got it stuck in my head at some point last week, for no reason at all, even though I hadn't heard it for months on end, strange things. The video is number 58 on my top 100 if you want to go find it (: I love it, I really do, so much I can't explain it.

Lyrics:
"I'm making my escape
Making my escape
Tell myself that everything's in shape
Everything's in shape
But me

How long can this take?
How long can this take?
Tell myself that everything is great
Everything is great
Well, how'm I doin'?

[Chorus]
I got a great idea I'm gonna wait right here I got a great idea I'm gonna wait right here While everything is adding up, up, up Everything is adding up, up, up

Breakin' both my hands
Breakin' both my hands
Tellin' me to take it like a man
Take it like a man
I can't

I don't understand
I don't understand
Please repeat whatever you just said
Nothin's makin' sense
Well, how'm I doin'?

Chorus

They're breakin' both my hands
They're breakin' both my hands
They're tellin' me to take it like a man
Take it like a man
Well fuck that

I don't understand
Said I don't understand
Said please repeat whatever you just said
Cause nothin's makin' sense
Well, how'm I doin'?

Chorus "

...So yeah, don't expect another list for a while because I can't really draw the inspiration to write about half of the songs in them when it finally gets to Friday. More importantly, I can't delve into why I like a lot of songs nowadays more than "good beat" or "lovely bass line".

I come from a poor family, we can't afford musical appreciation.

Doing my best

lately, I've been trying to keep some of my friends close by letting the "friends" go. It's working. I cut the strings of someone I never wanted to lose only today. They deserved it, every time I tried to speak to them I just got a frosty reception, so fuck them. Unfortunately, a string broke somewhere else, and I'm trying to reel the other strings I've got connected to them further inwards. It's hard, because we've both had an unlucky day and we've both done things to annoy each other without necessarily meaning to. Let's be honest, I'm trying way too hard for them, but I still think it's not hard enough. I still find people who tell me that I shouldn't care, because it's not worth getting hurt. I believe that, but it's worth feeling happy when people care back, worth the risk.

Anyway, that's not really the point, currently I'm sitting here listening to my Mayday Parade stuff: sorts me out when I'm kinda down. Things are okay. Not good, not bad, just okay. Maybe something will happen next week, apart from my mock exams, obviously...

Oh, and I might as well mention gaming while I'm here, now that I've finally found people to play with. Call me a geek if you really want, but every guy plays games (a hell of a lot of them play more than I do). Fuck knows if they've taken a shine to me, I can never tell straight away these days, I just have to "go with the flow". Fun fun fun.

Top 5 Songs (week starting 27/07)

Quite a few repeats this week, and all bands you've seen before, but quite an impressive list all the same :)

5. Deathbed - Relient K

The longest song on my playlist at over 11 minutes long. The title kind of sums it up, it's a guy on his deathbed. I only really like the chorus, which is right here:

"I can smell the death on the sheets
Covering me
I can't believe this is the end

I can hear those sad memories
Still haunting me
So many things I'd do again

But this is my deathbed
I lie here alone
If I close my eyes tonight
I know I'll be home"

4. Walk on Water or Drown - Mayday Parade

This song probably suits my mood quite well. Mayday Parade are quite good at suiting my mood, this is one of my favourite songs by them, I've known it for agesss. You'll see what it's about in the lyrics, good song...

Good Lyrics: "Well, this hurts me more than I can stand to say in just one sitting"

"Oh, and everybody knows this is the part
Of breaking down in anybody's arms"

"As I'm looking to the sky to count the stars
I wonder if you see them where you are"

"[Chorus]
And then I fell into pieces and she fell into me
Saying, "Play me a song
It's been too long since I've heard you sing."

And yeah, we all fall to pieces
But at least you fell to me
But this is a wrong night
Tell me goodnight and let it go"

3. The Ransom - Escape the Fate

This came up to suit my mood earlier this week, something came up that I really took a bitter approach to, this was a very good sound track to suit. Any veterans of my blog might just remember that this song came up in my second ever list, just thought you'd like to know...

Good Lyrics:

"Sending shivers right down your spine"

"[Chorus]
Quick
We have the ransom
Tell me how that you can swim
When ropes are wrapped around your limbs
Below
There's no more chances
So tell me now if you can swim
When ropes are wrapped around your limbs"

"I know you'll never change so please just hold on"

"There is a fine line between betrayal and your friends "

2. The Bird and the Worm - The Used

This song (along with my number 1) has been very consistant lately. It's moving it's way up my favourite songs list and I'd say it's probably in my top 10, possibly even my top 5. I love the line at the end of the chorus "To save his life, He crawls like a worm from a bird", I feel it suits me quite well :)

1. The New Black - Every Time I Die

I think that this has just become my favourite song. I don't know, my favourite songs tend to suit me, Adalia by Madina Lake highlighted my relationship with Ellen, so that became my favourite song back then. Call if you want to by The Riverclub was upbeat yet lonely, again, suiting me. The New Black is cocky, and about knowing who you are, even if you aren't such a great person, and I love it.

I looked up Every Time I Die yesterday and discovered that I really don't like any of their other songs. I guess they just hit it off with this one, awesome vocals that don't scream too much, cheeky little guitar riffs, cocky drums, verrrry good combination. I also found the video, which I like quite a lot. Unfortunately it's too late to add it to my list so I'm just gonna post it for you here:

Love the ending and what's going on next to the pool :p

Top 5 Songs (Week Starting 20/07)

It's been a pretty hefty week in terms of music, because I now have an official playlist, there were 597 songs to choose from. Luckily, five jumped out almost immediately and another three jumped out later on, so we have a less confusing list.

5. Private Eye - Alkaline Trio

This song has some of the best lyrics I've come across in a long time. It's about a guy who's stalking his ex to find some evidence that she was cheating on him or something. It's a bit sick in the head, but it's pretty cleverly written.

Good Lyrics:
"I dragged this lake looking for corpses
Dusted for prints, pried up the floorboards
Pieces of planes and black box recorders
Don't lie"

"New year's eve was as boring as heaven"

"But at the right place at the right time
I'll be dead wrong and you'll be just fine
And I won't have to quit doing fucked up shit
For anyone but me
And at the right place at the right time
It will have been worth it to stand in line
And you won't have to stop
Saying "I love cops" for anyone but me
Your private eye"

4. Little White Lies - Fastball

This song's a bit different to the stuff I normally listen to. Catchy beat, cool lyrics. It kind of applies to me too. The meaning's pretty obvious.

Good lyrics: "I saw you yesterday
I was not phased, I did not care
You turned and walked away
As if I was not there"

"I tell myself these little white lies, these little white lies
Like I don't miss you
I tell myself these little white lies, these little white lies
Like I don't love you
I tell myself these little white lies, these little white lies
Like I don't miss you you
I tell myself these little white lies, these little white lies
And I just walk around
With my eyes closed "

3. Keep Your Hands Off My Girl - Good Charlotte

This song has become really catchy to me (it was before, then I hated it). The big that got it into the list is just after the second chorus, it adds a whole new dimension to the song, and it goes like this:

"She, she, she don't wanna talk about it,
He, he, he wants to fight about,
Me, me, I don't wanna fight about it,
I just wanna be about it,
I'm just trying to stay about it,
Step out the wagon,
You know the boy starts to hate,
The girl that came with him,
They like that's not the boy she dates,
They get the fighting and swearing,
And now the boyfriend is staring,
The disco ball on the ceiling,
Looks like the chain that I'm wearing"

2. Coffee Shop Soundtrack - All Time Low

This song's pretty much me settling back into punk and my warped tour stuff. I was just half listening to this and a few lyrics ("flavour of lips", you'll see in a sec) really shone through. So I listened to the song again and really got into it. Good stuff.

Good Lyrics:
"I can keep a secret
If you can keep me guessing
The flavor of your lips
Is enough to keep me pressing"

Amazing.

1. Jamie All Over - Mayday Parade

I've been listening to this song every night on repeat. FACT. It is quite possibly the most emotionally powerful songs I have ever heard, in a good way. It all sounds so perfect, it's a shame it was just a dream. When I hear this song, it's presented so well that I can really imagine and partly feel how he feels for this girl. It'll be the closest thing to being in love for me for a hell of a long time. He savours every minute of their time together, I wouldn't know, all I've had is cheap thrills and school boy crushes...But still, this song is just so, so lovely, you'd have to listen to understand. Standard.

"I had a dream last night
We drove out to see Las Vegas
We lost ourselves in the bright lights
I wish you could have seen us
Begging for change to get home
Or at least San Francisco
Let's put a ten on the high card
And spend a summer on the West Coast

You wore the red shirt that I love
I sang the song that I wrote you
We laughed our way down the beaches
As we dance around the issue

Down and to the left
(Here's the map and the pen; the place you pointed at)
Be California's best
(Still it lasts, still it lasts)

And please don't tell me that I'm dreaming
When all I ever wanted was to
Dream another sunset with you
If I roll over when it's over
I'll take this Cali sunrise with me
And wake up with the fondest memories

We made love by the ocean
As the waves crashed around you
Sunsets never were so bright
And the skies never so blue
You opened up into my arms
And we laughed as I held you
I'll never go back to Georgia
Not at least till I have to

Down and to the left
(Here's the map and the pen; the place you pointed at)
Be California's best
(Still it lasts, still it lasts)

And please don't tell me that I'm dreaming
When all I ever wanted was to
Dream another sunset with you
If I roll over when it's over
I'll take this Cali sunrise with me
And wake up with the fondest memories
Memories

I had a dream last night
We drove out to see Las Vegas
We lost ourselves in the bright lights

And please don't tell me that I'm dreaming
When all I ever wanted was to
Dream another sunset with you
If I roll over when it's over
I'll take this Cali sunrise with me
And wake up with the fondest memories

We made love by the ocean
As the waves crashed around you
(Memories)
Sunsets never were so bright
And the skies never so blue
(Memories)
You opened up into my arms
And we laughed as I held you
(Memories)
I'll never go back to Georgia
Not at least till I have to

Down and to the left"

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, it's fairly obvious that it comes to an end :)

INTERESTING FACT: Mayday Parade was actually formed from two bands, one called Kid Named Chicago and the other called Defining Moment. This song was originally written by Kid Named Chicago but Mayday Parade half-covered (you know what I mean) it for their album.

Top 5 Songs (Week Starting 22/06)

Yes, while I'm doing all my other lists I have taken to time to bring you another five this week. Surprisingly, only one song has found it's way through from my top 48, which is quite impressive considering I've been listening to it for most of the week.

5. A Shot In the Dark - Playing With Matches

None of you will have heard of this unless I've sent it to you. It's one of my favourite songs of all time, I like it so much, that it's my text message tune :p I don't know what it's about because that's how unknown it is lol. Also, no lyrics because like Adalia, you WILL see this song another time :P.

4. The New Black - Every Time I Die

Do we recognize this name? We certainly do, this song has just joined the "posted twice" club! I still love it's cockiness and even the can opening sound at the start suggests that It's relaxed. I love it!

3. Rooftops - Lostprophets

Ok, the list kinda starts here :p. I rediscovered this song while watching kerrang, and the video came on and I was like "oh, I like this song!". I used to listen to it on repeat back when it came out :p Apparently it's about living your life to the full and having no regrets. I don't care, check out some lyrics (there aren't many):

Good Lyrics: "Will we make a mark,
This time.
Will we always say we tried"

"Standing on the rooptops,
Everybody scream your heart out"

"Standing on the rooftop,
Waiting till the bomb drops,
This is all we've got now,
Scream until your heart stops,
Never gonna regret,
Watching every sunset,
Listen to your heartbeat,
All the love that we've felt."

2. Champagne - Cavo

Not sure where this song came from to be honest, I picked it up while looking for sink into me I think. Anyway, it popped up while I was having a case of (virtual) road rage. And it worked, I beat Jazmine's high score with this in the back ground. It's one of those songs that has a bit of adrenaline taped to the side. I think the meaning sort of speaks for itself (a relationship ending), but I'm not certain because I can't even find the lyrics, I'll just have a shot at posting the chorus :p

Good Lyrics:
"Could've been the champagne,
The champagne,
Could've been the cocaine,
The cocaine,
Could've been the way you looked at me,
That told me we were through,
Could've been a bad day,
A bad day,
Could've been the real way
The real way,
Could've been the way you looked at me,
That told me we were through"

1. Three Cheers For Five Years - Mayday Parade

It's about time these guys got a number 1 :p I've only started listening to this song lately, it carries a lot of their emotion and it's not their most emotional song (see miserable at best). It just caught my ears while my playlist did it's thing and like other mayday parade songs, it presents real emotion, maybe not as much as miserable at best (if ever i have a depressed week that WILL be number one) and obviously it's about a breakup (most likely after five years together on their anniversary) and apparently the guy thinks that things will be better after a month apart but because the girl cheated on him he just can't forgive her. There you go.

"I swear that you don't have to go
I thought we could wait for the fireworks
I thought we could wait for the snow
To wash over Georgia and kill the hurt
I thought I could live in your arms
And spend every moment I had with you
Stay up all night with the stars
Confess all the faith that I had in you
To late, I'm sure and lonely
Another night, another dream wasted on you
Just be here now against me
You know the words so sing along for me baby
For heaven's sake I know you're sorry
But you won't stop crying
This anniversary may never be the same
Inside I hope you know I'm dying
With my heart beside me
In shattered pieces that may never be replaced
And if I died right now you'd never be the same

I thought with a month of apart
Together would find us an opening
And moonlight would provide the spark
And that I would stumble across the key
Or break down the door to your heart
Forever could see us not you and me
And you'd help me out of the dark
And I'd give my heart as an offering

And I will always remember you as you are right now to me
And I will always remember now
Sleep alone tonight with no one here just by your side
How does he feel, how does he kiss
How does he taste while he's on your lips
I can't forget you
I know you want me to want you
I want to
But I can't forgive you
So when this is over don't blow your composure baby
I can't forgive you
I know you want me to want you I want to"

Top 5 Songs (Week Starting 27/04/09)

5. What it is to burn - Finch

This song grabbed me from the first time I heard it. I'm not sure why, so i'm just gonna advise you guys to check it out.

Good Lyrics:
"Like a bad star,
I'm falling faster down to her.
She's the only one
who knows what it is to burn."

4. I'd hate to be you when people find out what this song is about - Mayday parade

I think the chorus of this song is beautiful, even though the title isn't :p it catches me every time with the intro, because it sounds so lovelyyyyy...

Good lyrics:
"And we both go down together
We'd stay there forever
Just try to get up
And I'm sorry this wasn't easy
When I asked you
Believe me
And never let go"

3. The Pirates who don't do anything - Relient K

Punk Rock Piracey! What else can i say? that's it, it's a good jokey song to listen to and it's good punk too. It gets ridiculously stupid towards the end which just makes it even more fantastic to hear. However, the best part is the intro, which is a barbershop quartet style intro, but with "argh"s!

Good Lyrics:
"We are the pirates, who don't do anything
We just stay at home, and lie around
And if you ask us to do anything
We'll just tell you, we don't do anything"

"And I never hoist the mainstay
and I never swab the poop deck
and I never veer to starboard
'cuz I never sail at all,
and I've never walked the gang plank
and I've never owned a parrot
and I've never been to Boston in the fall."

"Well I've never plucked a rooster
and I'm not too got at ping pong
and I've never thrown my mashed pa-taters up against the wall,
and I've never kissed a chipmunk
and I've never gotten head lice
and I've never been to Boston in the fall."

"We don't know what he did, but we're down with Captain Kidd
We don't wake up late for lunch, but we all eat Captian Crunch
We don't smoke, we don't chew, but we watch Captain Kangaroo"

"And I've never licked a spark plug,
and I've never sniffed a stink bug,
and I've never painted daisies on a big red rubber ball,
and I've never bathed in yogurt
and I don't look good in leggings...
and I've never been to Boston in the fall!"

2. True Love - Madina Lake

And about time! If you asked me my favourite band, Madina Lake is the first that comes to mind, their lyrics are so amazing and the way they're executed are spellbounding. I love them.
I like this song for two reasons, the first is that the intro catches me for some reason I don't know, the second is the chorus, which gets me every time!

Good Lyrics:
[Chorus]
"They always say true love is all you need,
But when true love is gone,
Can we go onnnn?
They say true love will never leave,
But my true love is gone,
And I can't go onnnn"

1. Saturday - Fall Out Boy

Fall Out Boy?! How could it possibly happen?! Because it's nothing like the crap they're spawning now, that's why. It's from their first album and it really means something to me, although, the verse after the first chorus is shit. :D

"I'm good to go
And I'm going nowhere fast
It could be worse
It could be taking you there with me
I'm good to go
But it looks like I'm still on my own

I'm good to go
For something golden
Though the motions I've been going through have failed
And I'm coasting on potential towards the wall
At a 100 miles an hour

When I say
Two more weeks
My foot is in the door (yeah)
I can't sleep In the wake of Saturday (Saturday)
Saturday
When these open doors were open-ended
Saturday
When these open doors were open-ended

Pete and I attacked the laws of Astoria
with promise and precision and mess of youthful innocence
And I read about the afterlife
But I never really lived more than an hour (more than an hour)

When I say
Two more weeks
My foot is in the door (yeah)
I can't sleep In the wake of Saturday (Saturday)
Saturday
When these open doors were open-ended
Saturday
When these open doors were open-ended

And I read about the afterlife
But I never really lived
And I read about the afterlife
But I never really lived

Two more weeks
My foot is in the door
Me and Pete
In the wake of Saturday
Saturday
When these open doors were open-ended
Saturday
When these open doors were open-ended
Saturday
Saturday"
